Federal Government Grants N70,000 Transport Aid to Workers

The federal government has approved a monthly transport intervention of N70,000 for workers in the public service, effective from November 2026, for a duration of six months. This decision follows an agreement reached with the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) during a meeting at the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment, convened by Minister Muhammadu Maigari Dingyadi.
The agreement also includes the payment of arrears for a peculiar allowance starting in November, to be completed in three installments. Additionally, the National Minimum Wage Negotiation Committee will be formed immediately, although there was disagreement on the effective date for the negotiations' outcomes.
The government representatives included Tanimu Yakubu and Garba Abdul S.U., while the NLC was represented by President Joe Ajaero and National Secretary Gbenga Olowoyo. The agreement stipulates that 19 months of outstanding allowances owed to health workers will be paid within three months, starting December 2026.
