Femi Kuti Reacts to Wizkid-Fela Comparison Controversy

Femi Kuti, the first son of Afrobeat pioneer Fela Anikulapo Kuti, has reacted to the recent controversy surrounding comparisons between singer Wizkid and his late father. Wizkid had sparked outrage by claiming to be bigger than Fela, leading to criticism from Seun Kuti, Femi's brother.

Femi, in a recent interview with Arise TV via Skype from Los Angeles, expressed his wish that the controversy had not arisen, emphasizing the need to idolize and respect Fela's legacy. He noted that Fela belonged to his league and should not be compared to other artists.

Femi highlighted that Fela's music and activism template in Nigeria should be respected, and he does not want to delve into the matter between Seun, Wizkid, and their respective fathers. Femi Kuti, who is currently in Los Angeles, is expected to receive a posthumous Lifetime Achievement Award for Fela at the 2026 Grammy Awards ceremony.
