Femi Adebayo's 'King Kosoko' Premieres August 23, 2026

"King Kosoko: The Battle for Lagos," a Yoruba-language historical drama, is set to premiere on August 23, 2026, at IMAX Lekki, Lagos, before its nationwide release on August 28, 2026. The film, directed by Adebayo Tijani and produced by Teqsus Studios, tells the story of Oba Kosoko, the 12th Oba of Lagos, and the political rivalries and battles that defined the kingdom from 1833 to 1852 amid increasing British influence.

Femi Adebayo stars as Oba Kosoko, with Odunlade Adekola portraying Oba Akintoye. The cast includes notable actors such as Gabriel Afolayan, Femi Branch, Jide Kosoko, Faithia Balogun, Yinka Quadri, Taiwo Hassan, Tina Mba, Adeniyi Johnson, Kolawole Ajeyemi, Aliu Gafar, and Yemi Elesho, totaling over 70 actors.

The film examines themes of leadership, loyalty, betrayal, and resistance to external influence, while the use of Yoruba with English subtitles aims to preserve cultural authenticity and reach a broader audience.
