Nigerian Footballer Lawrence Orairo Passes Away

Lawrence Orairo, a former defender for Nigeria's Green Eagles, has died after collapsing on the football field in Kirikiri, Lagos, on a Sunday morning. Attempts to revive him were unsuccessful.

His death comes just days after the passing of former Super Eagles coach Adegboy Onigbinde and midfielder Henri Nwosu, which has intensified the sorrow within the Nigerian football community. Orairo was a significant figure in Nigerian football during the 1970s and 1980s, known for his discipline, commitment, and leadership on the field.

He played for the New Nigerian Bank Football Club in Benin City, Edo State, and was part of the club's early development, which later became Ethiopian FC in Delta State. His contributions were pivotal in strengthening Nigerian club football during that era.

The football community has expressed an outpouring of tributes following his death, marking a somber moment for the nation. Funeral arrangements for Orairo have not yet been announced.
