Nigerian Government Bans Alcohol Production in Sachets and 200ml Bottles from 2026

The Nigerian government, through NAFDAC, has officially prohibited the production and distribution of alcohol in sachets and 200ml bottles effective January 1, 2026. The decision, supported by the Senate and Ministry of Health, aims to safeguard public health, especially vulnerable populations like children and adolescents, from the harmful effects of alcohol abuse.

NAFDAC's Director-General, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, emphasized the need to curb the easy access and misuse of high-alcohol content beverages that pose health risks and security threats.

Adeyeye highlighted the ban as a protective measure rooted in scientific evidence and public health considerations to secure the well-being of Nigerian youth and future generations.
