FG Initiates Payment of Withheld Allowances to Students

The Federal Government of Nigeria has commenced the payment of withheld allowances to Nigerian students studying abroad. This initiative was announced by the Federal Ministry of Education on May 19, 2026, following the approval of funds by the Central Bank of Nigeria.

The funds are intended for distribution through Nigerian embassies in various partner countries. Maruf Tunji Alausa, the Minister of Education, disclosed that the amount released covers half of the outstanding obligations for the 2025 academic year.

Arrangements have been made for the remaining balance to be paid subsequently. The minister emphasized that no Nigerian student pursuing academic excellence under the government scholarship scheme will be left unsupported.

Beneficiaries are expected to begin receiving payments through their respective missions shortly.
