FG Releases Funds for Five Months of CATA Arrears

The Federal Government has released funds for the payment of five months of accumulated Consolidated Academic Tool Allowance (CATA) arrears to eligible academic staff at federal universities. This action is in accordance with the provisions of the agreement signed between the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) in 2025.

A letter dated June 4 from Dr. Tunji Alausa, Vice Chancellor of a federal university, directed that universities ensure immediate clearance of outstanding CATA payments due to lecturers.

Additionally, universities are instructed to advance funds from their Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) sources to facilitate these payments, with the expectation that these amounts will be refunded upon receipt of the federal government allocation. The directive emphasizes strict compliance with existing financial regulations and proper record-keeping for reimbursement arrangements.
