Nigeria Partners with China for CNG and EV Infrastructure

The Federal Government of Nigeria, represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, has entered into a strategic partnership with China's New Power Technologies (NPT) to localize the manufacturing and assembly of compressed natural gas (CNG) and electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure in Nigeria. This initiative, fully backed by the Chinese government, aims to focus on local production, including CNG dispensers and EV charging facilities.

The partnership is part of Nigeria's efforts to deepen local content, reduce import dependency, and accelerate the adoption of cleaner transport energy. The plan includes training 100,000 Nigerians, with at least 1,000 state and local sponsors, and involves sending participants to China for training.

The initiative is expected to create 40,000 to 50,000 jobs in the charging swap sector and establish a complete EV ecosystem, including battery swap networks. The partnership also emphasizes training local talent, particularly women and vulnerable groups, to build a technical backbone in Nigeria.
