FG Launches CNG and Electric Vehicle Corridor in Kano

The Federal Government of Nigeria launched a northern corridor for compressed natural gas (CNG) and electric vehicle transport on Thursday in Kano State. This initiative aims to promote cleaner, affordable, and sustainable transportation, thereby reducing the cost of moving goods and passengers across the country.

The event took place at Sani Abacha Stadium and was attended by government officials, investors, and transport stakeholders. Vice President Kashim Shettima and Deputy Chief of Staff Ibrahim Hassan Hadejia described the initiative as a strategic economic intervention to support Nigeria's energy transition and improve transport efficiency.

The Executive Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Presidential Initiative for Compressed Natural Gas and Electric Vehicles, Ismaeel Ahm, disclosed that the program has evolved to cushion the effects of fuel subsidy removal and build a sustainable transport ecosystem. The initiative aims to attract $2 billion in investments and has onboarded 300 conversion partners nationwide, including 41 centers in Kano.

Governor Abba Yusuf emphasized the program's potential to reduce transport costs and improve living conditions for millions in Kano.
