FG Addresses Rising Cooking Gas Prices in Nigeria

The Federal Government of Nigeria convened an emergency meeting to address the growing concern over rising cooking gas prices nationwide. The meeting aimed to find immediate and long-term solutions to the increasing prices of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), which is a critical energy source for many Nigerian households already facing financial pressures.

Key players in the gas value chain, including government officials and industry associations, attended the meeting. Patience Oyekunle, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Petroleum Resources, emphasized the importance of LPG in Nigeria's broader energy transition goals.

Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Ekperikpe Ekpo, stated that President Bola Tinubu is closely monitoring the situation and has directed relevant agencies to take proactive steps to tackle the rising prices. Rabiu Umar, Chief Executive of NMDPRA, identified high land costs and various market factors as contributors to the price surge, while expressing confidence in ongoing efforts to stabilize the market.
