Tinubu's UK Visit Highlights Nigeria-UK Strategic Ties

The Nigerian government, represented by Minister Moham Idri, has defended President Bola Tinubu's forthcoming state visit to the United Kingdom, scheduled to begin on March 19, 2026. Idri addressed critics, asserting that their comments regarding the visit are either misinformed or deliberately misleading.

He highlighted the long-standing diplomatic, economic, and cultural ties between Nigeria and the UK, which have been maintained over decades. The visit is expected to strengthen collaboration in various sectors, including trade, investment, security, climate action, education, and technological innovation.

President Tinubu is set to arrive in the UK on March 18, 2026, and will be honored at Windsor Castle, marking the first time a Nigerian leader will receive state honors there instead of Buckingham Palace. This visit will make Tinubu the fifth Nigerian leader to undertake a UK state visit, following notable predecessors such as Abubakar Tafawa Balewa and Yakubu Gowon.
