FG Disburses N600 Billion to 10 Million Households

The Federal Government of Nigeria has disbursed over N600 billion in cash transfers to more than 10 million households since President Bola Tinubu assumed office, according to Bernard Doro, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction. Doro made this announcement on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, during an appearance on the Channels programme Politics Today.

He stated that the 10 million beneficiary households could represent approximately 40 million individuals, based on an average household size of four. Doro defended the cash transfer amounts against criticism, asserting that the government also initiated a vocational skills program that has trained over 18,000 individuals, providing them with starter kits and business management training.

He addressed concerns regarding food insecurity projections in nine conflict-affected northern states, urging caution in interpreting these figures. Doro confirmed that the Federal Government has implemented a presidential intervention on food and nutrition in 10 northern states and is committed to monitoring the situation.
