FG Allocates N250bn for Tertiary Students' Accommodation

The Federal Government of Nigeria has earmarked N250 billion to tackle the persistent accommodation crisis in tertiary institutions, as revealed by Dr. Tunji Alausa, the Minister of Education, during the inauguration of chairmen and members of various boards under the Federal Ministry of Education in Abuja.

This initiative, part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda, aims to construct new hostels and expand existing facilities across at least 50 tertiary institutions, with each institution receiving N2 billion to deliver a minimum of 500 bed spaces. The funding will be managed through the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), which will coordinate the rollout of the project.

An additional N80 billion is expected to be mobilized through public-private partnerships, potentially delivering between 1,200 to 1,500 bed spaces across 24 federal tertiary institutions. Dr.

Alausa emphasized the government's commitment to education as a cornerstone of national development and the importance of sustainable investment in infrastructure and human capital.
