FG Allocates N250bn for Tertiary Institution Housing

The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced a commitment of over N250 billion to tackle the persistent accommodation crisis in tertiary institutions. Dr.

Tunji Alausa, the Minister of Education, disclosed this initiative in Abuja on Wednesday during the inauguration of chairmen and members of the governing boards of various educational agencies. This funding, approved by President Bola Tinubu under the Renewed Hope Agenda, will facilitate the construction of new hostels and the expansion of existing facilities across at least 50 tertiary institutions, with each institution receiving N2 billion aimed at delivering a minimum of 500 bed spaces.

The Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) will coordinate the rollout of this project, which also includes a public-private partnership investment of N80 billion to provide between 1,200 and 1,500 bed spaces across 24 federal tertiary institutions. Alausa emphasized the government's commitment to reforming the education sector to improve access and quality, aligning educational outcomes with national development priorities.
