David Umahi Launches Emergency Repair on Benin-Asaba Highway

The Federal Government, through the Federal Ministry of Works and under the leadership of Minister David Umahi, has launched an emergency intervention on the Benin-Asaba Highway as part of the “Operation Rescue” initiative. This initiative aims to restore safe, smooth, and uninterrupted movement along the 125km federal highway, which connects Benin City in Edo State to Asaba in Delta State.

The intervention follows the identification of severe road deterioration and the concessioning of the highway to the Benin-Asaba Expressway Concession Company (BAECC), which has been deemed incapable of executing the project effectively. The Independent Engineer, Messrs Yolas Consultants Limited, confirmed the concessionaire's lack of technical and financial capacity.

Umahi has been actively monitoring the situation and has decided to deploy equipment and personnel to address the critical sections of the road. He emphasized that this intervention is not a new contract but an immediate solution to alleviate the suffering of road users and protect public interest.
