Umahi to Inspect Benin-Asaba Road Amid Traffic Issues

Minister of Works David Umahi is scheduled to inspect the Benin-Asaba Road on Tuesday, responding to ongoing complaints regarding heavy traffic and deteriorating road conditions affecting motorists and residents. The announcement was made during the flag-off ceremony for the dualisation of the Ibadan-Ijebu-Ode Road, with details later shared by his media aide, Francis Nwaze.

The inspection will include officials from the Ministry of Works, independent engineers, the company managing the road project, and representatives from the Edo State Government. Umahi expressed concern over the increasing complaints from road users, particularly around the Benin-Agbor section, attributing part of the issues to the private-sector concession arrangements for road development and management.

He noted that the involved company had removed over 30 kilometres of asphalt without completing the necessary rehabilitation, resulting in damaged road sections, slow traffic movement, and long delays for transport operators and residents reliant on this critical route connecting Edo and Delta states.
