Nigerian Government Imposes 15% Duty on Imported Fuel to Protect Local Refineries

The Nigerian government has approved a 15% duty on imported petrol and diesel to safeguard local refineries like Dangote Refinery and enhance the country's downstream petroleum market. President Bola Tinubu authorized this tariff framework to be implemented immediately by the FIRS and NMDPRA.

The move aims to align domestic prices with realistic cost structures, promote energy security, and encourage investments in the country's refining sector. The duty is part of efforts to ensure stable and affordable petroleum product supplies across Nigeria.
