Presidency Confirms Lagos-Calabar Highway Will Proceed

On October 14, the Presidency clarified that President Bola Tinubu did not order the abandonment of parts of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, which is set to span 750 kilometers. This statement was made in response to public concerns regarding the proposed use of the East-West Road corridor in the Niger Delta, which some feared would exclude certain states and coastal communities from the project.
The government emphasized that the reconstruction of 400 kilometers of the East-West Road from Edo State to Cross River State is an additional project that will not interfere with the construction of the coastal highway. The ongoing sections of the highway include Sections 3A and 3B in Cross River and Akwa Ibom States, Sections 4A and 4B in Ogun and Ondo States, and Section Five in Akwa Ibom State.
The Presidency also noted that surveying and design work for the remaining sections is ongoing, with construction expected to commence once these processes are completed.
