David Umahi Confirms Progress on Lagos-Calabar Highway

Senator David Umahi, the Minister of Works, reaffirmed the Nigerian government's commitment to completing the Lagos-Calabar Highway during a press briefing following a meeting with President Bola Tinubu. He rejected claims on social media that the project had been abandoned or altered, stating that construction, surveying, and design activities were ongoing.

Section One of the highway, spanning 47.47 kilometres in Lagos State, has been completed, while Section Two, covering 55 kilometres, is expected to be finished by mid-November 2026. Umahi clarified that the integration of approximately 400 kilometres of the East-West Road into the coastal highway project is necessary due to flooding vulnerabilities in certain sections.

He noted that construction is progressing on Sections 3A and 3B in Cross River and Akwa Ibom, with over 40 per cent completion, and on Sections 4A and 4B in Ogun and Ondo States. Section Five in Akwa Ibom has also seen more than 20 per cent completion since work began less than three months ago.
