Nigeria Issues Nationwide Flood Alert for 30 States

The Federal Government of Nigeria has issued a fresh nationwide flood alert, advising residents in hundreds of vulnerable communities across the country to prepare for possible flooding due to heavy rainfall forecasted from June 22 to July 5, 2026. The warning was contained in a flood prediction advisory released by the Federal Ministry of Environment's National Flood Early Warning Centre, signed by Usman Abdullahi Bokani.

The advisory identifies communities in 30 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) that face varying degrees of flood risk. Residents in these areas are urged to take immediate precautionary measures.

States expected to experience flooding include Abia, Adamawa, Akwa Ibom, Anambra, Bayelsa, Benue, Cross River, Delta, Ebonyi, Edo, Ekiti, Enugu, Imo, Kebbi, Kogi, Kwara, Lagos, Nasarawa, Niger, Ogun, Ondo, Osun, Oyo, Plateau, Rivers, and Taraba. The advisory emphasizes the need for vigilance in riverine and coastal communities, particularly in locations identified as high-risk for severe flooding.
