FG Urges Nigerians to Prepare for Flooding Amid Climate Change

The Federal Government of Nigeria has called on citizens to embrace flood preparedness as heavy rains continue to threaten communities across the country. This warning follows recent flooding incidents in Lagos State, which submerged roads and disrupted businesses.

Comrade Yussuf Olatunji Kelani, Special Assistant to the President on Climate Change Matters, reaffirmed President Bola Tinubu's administration's commitment to implementing the Climate Change Act and the Energy Transition Plan. Kelani stressed the importance of stronger coordination among federal, state, and local governments to reduce the impact of floods nationwide.

He noted that investments alone will not mitigate flood risks but will also create jobs and stimulate economic growth. Kelani described recent floods as a wake-up call, urging Nigerians to take environmental responsibility seriously.

He highlighted that climate change is a present reality requiring urgent action, and emphasized that every household and local government must contribute to building resilient infrastructure to combat flooding.
