Nigeria Launches $2B Digital Economy Research Cluster

The Federal Government of Nigeria officially launched a $2 billion Digital Economy Research Cluster in Abuja, aimed at boosting research and innovation in the digital economy. Dr.

Bosun Tijani, the Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, emphasized the importance of creating local insights rooted in Nigeria's realities rather than relying on external ideas. The initiative will connect universities with global partners and focus on key areas to build resilient digital infrastructure.

The World Bank will engage with university-led research consortia to deliver high-quality, policy-relevant research across six thematic clusters. Dr.

Tunji Alausa highlighted the need for Nigerian universities to evolve beyond theoretical learning and nurture innovative entrepreneurs capable of solving problems and competing globally. The cluster is expected to strengthen the research base and contribute to global knowledge, ultimately transforming lives in Nigeria.
