FG Launches Investor Forum for Power Sector Bond Issuance
On Tuesday, the Federal Government of Nigeria convened the Investor Forum for the Series II Bond Issuance under the Presidential Power Sector Financial Reforms Programme (PPSFRP) in Abuja. Olu Arowolo Verheijen, Special Adviser to the President on Energy, stated that the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is focused on executing commitments made in the first phase of the programme.
The reforms aim to convert legacy liabilities into investable assets, thereby enhancing liquidity in the electricity sector. Under Series I, approximately ₦501 billion was deployed, addressing about 22% of verified settlement obligations.
Verheijen announced that ₦333.12 billion has been paid to eight generation companies covering 17 power plants. The government met its first debt service obligation by paying ₦63.5 billion on July 14, 2026.
The Series II issuance is expected to deepen liquidity and strengthen the financial foundation for attracting sustainable private capital into the sector.
