FG Launches Loan Scheme for 6,122 Nigerian Entrepreneurs

On Tuesday, the Nigerian Federal Government unveiled a landmark financial program in Abuja designed to empower 6,122 entrepreneurs through a single-digit loan scheme. This initiative, inspired by the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN), aims to transform Nigeria's entrepreneurial landscape by providing access to loans ranging from ₦250,000 to ₦5 million.

The program is part of the ICSS initiative, implemented in collaboration with the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) and the Kaduna Business School, with loan facilitation managed by Jaiz Bank. Minister of Youth Development, Ayodel Olawand, emphasized that access to finance is a significant barrier to entrepreneurship, especially for youth in underserved communities.

The program is not a charity but a deliberate investment to sustain economic growth. Charl Odii, SMEDAN's Director General, noted that the loans would support product development and equipment acquisition.

The pilot phase will benefit 100 entrepreneurs, with a broader target of 6,122 nationwide, prioritizing women and youth-led enterprises. Dr.
