Nigeria Launches New Malaria Elimination Strategy 2028

The Federal Government of Nigeria, represented by the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Professor Muhammad Ali Pate, and the Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Iziak Adekunle Salako, launched a new malaria elimination strategy in Abuja.

This initiative, led by the Malaria Consortium, aims to combat the prevalence of malaria, which has affected Nigeria for over five decades. The strategy focuses on collaboration with various stakeholders to maximize the value of government efforts and enhance community engagement.

Dr. Charl Nzelu, representing the Ministry of Health, emphasized the importance of this initiative in protecting millions of children from malaria.

The strategy, which spans from 2025 to 2028, is designed to be data-driven and sustainable, ensuring local leadership and partnerships are at the forefront. Dr.

Olusola Oresanya highlighted the need for improved access to treatment and a strengthened health system to effectively respond to malaria challenges. Dr.

Kolawole Maxwell provided an overview of the strategic pillars guiding this effort.
