FG Urgently Reviews Nigeria's Revenue Sharing Formula

On March 25, 2026, the Federal Government of Nigeria, represented by Georg Akum, the Permanent Secretary of the Government Office, and Ibrahim Abubakar Kana, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), emphasized the urgent need to review the country's revenue allocation framework. This initiative aims to realign the existing revenue sharing arrangements among the three tiers of government in response to current economic realities and developmental priorities.

SGF Kana urged stakeholders to expedite their work and ensure an early submission of a comprehensive report. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu highlighted the urgency of the review process, which is intended to strengthen fiscal federalism and promote balanced development across the federation, particularly as subnational governments face increasing financial pressures.

The ongoing review is expected to provide a framework that addresses long-standing concerns regarding revenue distribution and supports the broader economic reform agenda of the Tinubu administration.
