Federal Government Allocates N4.25bn to Ex-Nigeria Airways Workers

The Federal Government has disbursed N4.25bn in outstanding pension and severance benefits to an additional 600 beneficiaries of the defunct Nigeria Airways Limited, bringing the total number of beneficiaries paid to 3,300. This payment, which covers the 10th and 11th batches of beneficiaries, is part of efforts to settle longstanding financial obligations to former employees of the national carrier.
The Federal Ministry of Finance, through its Head of Media, Efe Ovuakporie, announced that the first nine batches covered 2,700 beneficiaries. The latest disbursement translates to an average gross benefit of approximately N7.09m per beneficiary.
The total reported gross payments now amount to approximately N22.25bn for 3,300 beneficiaries, including the earlier N18bn allocated to 2,700 former workers. The ministry indicated that verification of claims from the next of kin of deceased former employees is ongoing to establish eligibility for further payments.
