Nigeria's Government Unveils National Data Exchange System
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, announced the Federal Government's plans to implement a national data exchange system. This system will enable authorized ministries, departments, and agencies to share data securely and facilitate “once-only” service delivery for citizens and businesses.
Akume, represented by Dr Ibrahim Abubakar Kana at the fourth Nigeria GovTech Conference and Awards in Abuja, stated that the initiative builds on a digital public infrastructure framework launched in March 2025, which focuses on digital identity, digital payments, and secure data exchange. He noted that over 136 million Nigerians are enrolled in the National Identity Number system and highlighted the need to address gaps in data protection, interoperability, and integration of subnational governments into identity and payment systems.
Mr Dasuki I. Arabi, Director-General of the Bureau of Public Service Reforms, mentioned the launch of three digital tools to enhance public service reform tracking and record-keeping.
