Nigeria's Government Launches Five-Year Defense Strategy

The Federal Government of Nigeria announced plans to implement a five-year strategic defense plan after a comprehensive national threat assessment. This initiative follows the successful capture of one of the world's most wanted terrorists, Mamuda, and his chief of staff without any gunfire.

Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, and Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, revealed these developments during a press conference in Abuja. President Bola Tinubu approved the new national threat assessment and defense plan to create a coherent security strategy aimed at ensuring safety for all citizens.

Akume emphasized the government's commitment to intensifying operations against terrorism, banditry, and kidnapping while enhancing intelligence gathering and coordination among military, police, and local communities. An 11-member committee, led by Maj Gen Adeyinka Famadewa, was formed to prepare the necessary documents, which will identify threats and establish operational objectives for addressing them.
