FG Aims to Lift 50 Million Nigerians Out of Poverty by 2030

The Federal Government of Nigeria announced a plan to lift 50 million Nigerians out of poverty by 2030 during a workshop program in Abuja on Tuesday. Dr.

Bernard Doro, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, explained that the initiative will focus on identifying vulnerable individuals, registering them, and providing targeted support to help them transition out of poverty. This support will include skill acquisition programs, asset provision, and mentorship mechanisms to sustain growth and prevent relapse into poverty.

The initiative is designed to integrate humanitarian relief with long-term development and social protection programs, aligning with various ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) and state governments. The plan will feature a unified national registration system to replace fragmented programs, allowing for real-time tracking and coordination.

Dr. Christoph Ngyang, the Minister of Finance, emphasized the importance of credible data to avoid ineffective interventions, as 63% of Nigerians currently face multidimensional poverty.
