Nigeria Launches Unified Poverty Strategy for 50 Million

On Tuesday, during a high-level technical workshop held at the UN House in Abuja, the Federal Government of Nigeria launched a Unified Poverty Strategy targeting 50 million Nigerians. Dr.

Bernard Doro, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, revealed that 63% of Nigerians currently live in multidimensional poverty. He emphasized that the country faces challenges such as weak coordination and inefficient management of poverty interventions.

The new framework aims to integrate humanitarian aid and social protection into a single coordinated platform, ensuring that stakeholders operate within a unified national structure. Doro also announced the establishment of a poverty intelligence laboratory to deploy real-time data and monitor intervention needs.

He warned of rising economic pressures and climate-related challenges that threaten global aid, urging Nigeria to adopt an efficient unified response. This initiative is described as a defining moment in Nigeria's development journey, with a commitment to ensure that every intervention contributes to a sustainable pathway out of poverty.
