Shell Pays $2.016bn in Royalties to Nigeria in 2025

In 2025, Shell paid $2.016 billion in royalties to the Federal Government of Nigeria and awarded $518 million in contracts to Nigerian contractors, as disclosed in Shell’s 2025 Payments to Governments Report. Rohan D’Souza, Vice President Commercial, stated that 123 indigenous companies were engaged across Shell's value chain in Nigeria during this period.

He emphasized that these payments demonstrate a strong commitment to supporting Nigerian service providers and are part of a broader strategy to foster a mutually beneficial relationship with local companies. Shell has also launched a $3 billion Contract Finance Facility with nine leading Nigerian banks to assist indigenous contractors in executing contracts.

This fund will be available in both Naira and USD. D’Souza noted that Shell's payments, which included production entitlements, royalties, taxes, and statutory fees, reflect the enduring partnership Shell has maintained in Nigeria for over 60 years.
