FG Reaffirms Commitment to Nigerian Correctional Service Reform

The Federal Government of Nigeria has reaffirmed its commitment to reforming the Nigerian Correctional Service, as stated by Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Minister of Interior.

This announcement was made during a passing-out parade for 34th Assistant Superintendent of Corrections Basic Course participants at the Nigerian Correctional Service Staff College in Barnawa, Kaduna. The reforms are part of a strategic initiative aimed at enhancing national security and improving service delivery across the country.

Dr. Tunji-Ojo highlighted that the current administration has placed significant emphasis on discipline and professional improvement within the correctional services.

The reforms also aim to eliminate the stigma associated with incarceration and ensure that inmates are rehabilitated and reintegrated into society. The Minister noted that the Nigerian Correctional Service has undergone significant reforms, which include a six-month basic course covering custodial and non-custodial procedures designed to strengthen Nigeria's security architecture.
