Nigeria Enhances Climate Resilience with New Project

The Federal Government of Nigeria has renewed its commitment to strengthen climate resilience across the country by implementing the Agro Climate Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) project. Joseph Utsev, the Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, emphasized the project's central role in addressing climate-related threats such as flooding, land degradation, and water scarcity.

During a mid-term review meeting in Kaduna, Utsev, who serves as co-chairman of the ACReSAL steering committee, highlighted the need for accelerated implementation and deeper impact through river basin development and improved watershed management. The project, supported by the World Bank, aims to tackle environmental challenges specifically in Nigeria's semi-arid regions, which have been increasingly affected by severe flooding and prolonged dry spells.

The initiative is crucial for safeguarding water resources, improving agricultural productivity, and building adaptive capacity in vulnerable communities. The meeting featured representatives from various sectors, including Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani and World Bank technical team leader Joi Agen.
