FG Removes UTME Requirement for Education College Admissions

The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced that candidates seeking admission into education colleges will no longer be required to sit for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). This decision was communicated by the Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, during a policy meeting organized by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) in Abuja.

The new admission policy will take effect for the 2026 academic year. Candidates must possess a minimum of four credit passes in relevant subjects to apply directly to education colleges.

However, it is mandatory for candidates to register with JAMB, which will screen and verify their credentials before issuing admission letters. The Minister emphasized that this policy aims to expand access to teacher education and address the challenges faced by schools.

Additionally, the Federal Government has extended this exemption to candidates seeking admission into national diploma programs in non-technology agricultural courses, aiming to balance access while maintaining the integrity of the admission system.
