Nollywood Icon Olu Jacobs Passes Away at 84 in 2026

Sir Oludotun Baiyewu Jacobs, a legendary actor and cultural icon, passed away on September 16, 2026, at the age of 84. The Federal Government of Nigeria, represented by the Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy, Barrister Hannatu Musa Musawa, expressed deep sorrow over his death, calling it a monumental loss to Nigeria and the creative industry.

Musawa highlighted Jacobs' significant contributions over five decades, stating he was a national institution who trained many in the Lufodo Academy. Prince Adewole Adebayo, the Presidential Candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) for the 2027 elections, also mourned Jacobs, describing him as a giant in the film industry whose discipline and professionalism set high standards for acting in Africa.

Adebayo extended condolences to Jacobs' family, particularly his wife, Dame Joke Silva, and emphasized Jacobs' impact on culture and the international recognition of Nigerian cinema.
