Olu Jacobs, Iconic Nigerian Actor, Passes Away at 84

Oludotun Baiyewu Jacobs, a veteran actor and film executive, died at the age of 84, as announced by his son, Olusoji Jacobs, via Instagram. Born on July 11, 1942, Jacobs had a distinguished career in theatre, television, and film, becoming one of Nigeria's most celebrated actors.

He trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) in London and starred in over 100 films. His accolades included the Africa Movie Academy Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role in 2007 and the national honour of Member of the Order of the Federal Republic (MFR) in 2011.

Jacobs co-founded the Lufodo Group and Lufodo Academy of Performing Arts with his wife, fellow actress Joke Silva. President Bola Tinubu expressed deep sadness over Jacobs' passing, acknowledging his significant contributions to Nigeria's entertainment industry and his ability to inspire generations.

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu also mourned Jacobs, calling his death a great loss to the creative industry.
