Nigeria Enhances Collaboration with UNDP for Development

The Nigerian government is pursuing closer development collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to leverage its expertise in various reform programs. Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila expressed appreciation for the UNDP's support during a courtesy visit from Resident Representative Elsi Attafuah at the State House in Abuja.

Gbajabiamila highlighted President Bola Tinubu's commitment to reform, particularly in enhancing local content in the oil industry and promoting female participation in politics. He noted the UNDP's experience could assist Nigeria in achieving desired outcomes without conflicting with cultural and religious sensitivities.

Attafuah acknowledged the cordial relationship between the UNDP and Nigeria, commending President Tinubu's leadership and expressing the agency's intent to continue supporting Nigeria's development initiatives. She also mentioned a shift from donor-based projects to a government-financed, long-term thematic approach, aiming to create jobs and drive economic competitiveness through various sectors, including education and energy.
