Shettima to Lead Nigeria's Delegation at UN Assembly

The Federal Government of Nigeria announced that Vice President Kashim Shettima will lead the country's delegation at the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. This decision comes as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is on annual leave, and Shettima has been mandated to represent him.

In a statement signed by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, it was emphasized that Shettima will deliver Nigeria's national statement and participate in high-level meetings and bilateral engagements with world leaders and international organizations. The Vice President's engagements will focus on advancing Nigeria's priorities, including peace and security, economic development, climate action, and international cooperation.

The government also addressed comments from former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and a U.S.-based lobbying organization, urging political actors to avoid speculation that could misrepresent Nigeria's international relationships. The government reassured that Nigeria's interests will be vigorously advanced at the assembly.
