FG Suspends Petrol Import Licenses as Local Refineries Thrive

The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced the suspension of petrol import licenses for the second consecutive month, indicating a growing confidence in local refineries to meet the country's fuel demand. This development was disclosed in a statement by Dada Olusegun, Special Assistant to the President on Social Media, on Wednesday.

The suspension aligns with the government's strategy to prioritize local production and strengthen Nigeria's refining sector. The decision is in accordance with the provisions of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA), which encourages reliance on domestic refining while allowing imports only when local capacity falls short.

This policy aims to boost Nigeria's refining industry and reduce dependence on imported fuel, contributing to the country's efforts to achieve energy self-sufficiency.
