Minister Darma Plans to Revive Abandoned Housing Projects

Engr. Muttaqa Rabe Darma, the Honourable Minister of Housing and Urban Development, announced that the Federal Government will rehabilitate, upgrade, and complete all abandoned housing properties. During an inspection of an abandoned housing estate in the Kubwa – Karsana district of the FCT, Darma expressed concern over the neglect of government housing projects.

He emphasized that these assets, funded by public money, should be made available to citizens rather than left to deteriorate. The initiative is part of the Federal Government's Renewed Hope Housing Agenda, aimed at increasing housing stock and reducing the housing deficit.

The Ministry is currently reviewing the status of abandoned projects to determine necessary interventions. Darma stated that the focus will be on completing viable projects and ensuring transparent allocation of completed homes to deserving Nigerians, with a target to deliver more homes before the end of 2026.
