Nigeria Launches Digital TV Program for 40 Million Homes

On Wednesday, the Federal Government of Nigeria formally launched its long-awaited digital switch program in Abuja, aiming to reach 40 million homes and unlock N600 billion in economic opportunities. The initiative is part of Nigeria's transition from analogue to digital terrestrial television broadcasting, which faced delays over the years.

Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, described the rollout as a significant milestone in Nigeria's digital transformation agenda, supporting the administration's broader goal of building a N1 trillion economy. The program will not only improve access to information, education, and cultural content but also ensure that no Nigerian is excluded based on geographic location.

Tijani linked the project to the government's wider digital infrastructure strategy, which includes deploying 90,000 kilometers of fiber optic networks nationwide. The initiative is expected to create jobs and stimulate investment across the broadcast value chain, enhancing the quality of service and content diversity for Nigerians.
