Nigeria's Steel Minister Audu Pursues German Tech Transfer

On September 24, 2026, the Federal Government of Nigeria, represented by Minister of Steel Development Prince Shuaibu Abubakar Audu, engaged with a delegation of German Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) led by Dr Chux Onaa in Abuja. The meeting focused on technology transfer to strengthen Nigeria's mineral processing and metallurgical value chains.

Audu emphasized the importance of translating prior discussions from the 9th German-African Economic Forum in Dortmund into actionable industrial collaborations. He noted Nigeria's rich mineral resources and market potential, asserting the government's commitment to fostering a competitive, technology-driven steel industry.

Key areas for cooperation identified included modern technology deployment, equipment manufacturing, and capacity development. The Permanent Secretary, Ambassador Nura Abba Rimi, highlighted the alignment of this initiative with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and the establishment of the Ministry of Steel Development to revitalize the sector.

The visit was seen as a significant step towards a high-technology partnership between Nigeria and Germany.
