Nigerian Government to End HND-BSc Dichotomy, Empower Polytechnics to Award Degrees

The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced plans to end the discrimination between Higher National Diploma (HND) and Bachelor's degree holders by empowering polytechnics to award degrees. This major reform, disclosed by the Minister of Education, Dr.

Tunji Alausa, during a retreat in Abuja, seeks to elevate polytechnics as centers of excellence within Nigeria's higher education system. The policy shift is part of efforts to strengthen technical and vocational education, aligning with President Bola Tinubu's agenda for job creation, industrial growth, and human capital development.

The reform is expected to attract stronger industrial partnerships, improve funding opportunities, and enhance public confidence in polytechnic education.
