Nigerian Government Expands Digital Learning to 15 States

The Nigerian government plans to expand digital learning initiatives to 15 states, as announced during the commissioning of a TETFund/Renewed Hope Initiative ICT Experience Centre at Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete. This centre is part of a pilot phase involving six institutions, one from each geopolitical zone.

Senator Oluremi Tinubu, speaking through Nana Shettima, emphasized that the initiative aims to improve access to digital learning and enhance graduate employability. The expansion will cover institutions in Adamawa, Bayelsa, Borno, Delta, Edo, Enugu, Imo, Katsina, Nasarawa, Niger, Ondo, Osun, Rivers, Yobe, and Zamfara, with construction already underway.

The KWASU facility includes an ICT laboratory and aims to expose students to fields like Artificial Intelligence and cybersecurity. Architect Sonny Echono, Executive Secretary of TETFund, noted the importance of this intervention for students and lecturers.

Prof. Shaykh-Luqman Jimoh, Vice-Chancellor of KWASU, described the project as an investment in human capital and innovation.
