Nwuche Advocates Amnesty for Repentant Cultists in Rivers

Chibudom Nwuche, the former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives and Chairman of the Governing Board of the South-South Development Commission, called on the Federal Government to establish an amnesty program for repentant cultists and militant youths in the Orashi area of Rivers State. This appeal was made during the commencement of the 2026 Upata Folklore event in Ahoada East Local Government Area.

Nwuche highlighted the persistent insecurity in the region, particularly in Ahoada, where communities have faced killings and criminal activities. He referenced the murder of CSP Bako Amgbashim, the former Divisional Police Officer of Ahoada East, as a significant security incident.

Nwuche urged the Federal Government, particularly the Office of the National Security Adviser led by Nuhu Ribadu, to consider a structured amnesty arrangement for youths willing to abandon violence. He stressed that such a program should include proper screening, rehabilitation, and reintegration into society, while also calling on current criminals to seek legitimate livelihoods.
