Nigerian Government Seeks Death Sentence for IPOB Leader Nnamdi Kanu

The Nigerian government, through its lead counsel Adegboyega Awomolo, has urged the Federal High Court in Abuja to impose a death sentence on Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). Kanu was found guilty on seven terror counts, with Awomolo arguing that Kanu's actions merit the maximum penalty under the law.

The prosecution emphasized the need to prevent security breaches involving Kanu and ensure his secure detention pending the court's final sentencing decision. Kanu had earlier been convicted of inciting violence and ordering attacks on security personnel.
