FG Calls for Regular Audits of Medical Equipment in Hospitals

On Thursday, the Federal Government of Nigeria called on healthcare institutions across the country to conduct regular audits on medical equipment. This appeal was made during the opening ceremony of a five-day capacity-building workshop on biomedical engineering held in Abuja.

The workshop was organized by Healthi Live Community in partnership with the Biomedical Engineering Technology Partnership and the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare. Dr.

Iziak Adekunle Salako, representing Special Assistant Dr. Babatunde Akinyemi, highlighted the pivotal role of biomedical engineering in ensuring the optimal functioning of medical devices.

He noted that advanced machines often remain underutilized or dysfunctional without skilled personnel for maintenance. The workshop aims to reawaken professional consciousness in biomedical engineering and refresh technical skills to safeguard and expand health assets.

The Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare has initiated several strategies, including upgrading teaching facilities at five federal teaching hospitals that host biomedical engineering schools.
