FG Urges Nigerians to Support Voluntary Blood Donation

The Federal Government of Nigeria has called on citizens to embrace voluntary blood donation as a life-saving act, as stated by Mr. Ahmad Tijjani Sundai, the Director of the National Blood Transfusion Service in Jigawa.

This message was delivered in recognition of the 2026 World Blood Donor Day, celebrated on June 14, which aims to appreciate the contributions of voluntary blood donors. The theme for this year's celebration emphasizes gratitude towards blood donors, highlighting that every unit of blood donated can save patients facing emergencies.

Tijjani noted that blood donation is crucial during accidents, surgeries, and maternal health situations, as well as for patients with sickle cell disease and cancer. He encouraged Nigerians to regularly donate blood, reminding them that it is a gift of life that strengthens communities and saves millions worldwide.

Additionally, he advised potential donors to maintain good nutrition and hydration before donating blood and to seek accurate information from trusted health sources.
