FG Vows to Retaliate Over Changes to US Visa Policy

The Federal Government of Nigeria has vowed to retaliate against the United States over changes to the visa policy. The new US policy requires Nigerian visa applicants to disclose their social media handles, email addresses, phone numbers, and online identifiers used in the last five years.

Failure to comply could result in visa denial or future ineligibility. The US Mission in Nigeria stated that this policy is part of efforts by the Trump administration to strengthen national security.

In response, a spokesperson for the Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that the government was briefed ahead of the announcement and emphasized that reciprocity would guide Nigeria's response. Additionally, the US Citizenship and Immigration Services has introduced stricter requirements for naturalization applicants, expanding scrutiny beyond criminal records to cover community involvement, tax compliance, and adherence to US social norms.
